History & Legacy

Faculty may use writing assignments as a tool for assessment, evaluating academic papers for evidence that students have internalized the content of the course and are able to reason critically. In addition, faculty may use writing as part of the learning process.

Writing Across Curriculum (WAC) Initiative supports faculty, instructors, and teaching assistants in developing clear writing assignments, creating rubrics to help students understand expectations, teaching their students the standards of writing in a particular field of study or profession, and integrating writing into the curriculum in an active and effective way.

A major goal of the WAC Initiative is to promote writing as a tool for learning in the classroom.
