Fencing will be placed at the entrance to the cancer center drive loop, the stairs at the plaza and the north entrance at neuroscience.  Staff will need to use the entrance sidewalk between the new building and the west parking garage then enter the new building through the west entrance to access the older part of the hospital. All hallways will be closed into the Critical Care Wing . Temporary construction walls will be installed in the hallways. The contractor will be starting demolition  the 25th of June.

GROUNDWATER MONITORING

Just a friendly heads up that (weather permitting) from 7/30/07 through
8/1/07, the UNM Safety & Risk Services (SRS, formerly RSHEA/SHEA) and the New Mexico Environment Department will be monitoring groundwater at UNM. This involves pumping & sampling groundwater from monitoring wells on and off campus. All the monitor wells are on the Central Campus in PPD Areas 1, 3 and 4, and are located as follows:

MW-1, N. of Parking & Transportation;
MW-2, W. driveway at ITS (CIRT);
MW-3, driveway to PPD Area 4 between Chemistry and Carlisle Gym;
MW-4, N. of Zimmerman Library (motorcycle parking);
MW-5, Reservoir Pump House;
MW-6 , Lot S. of Johnson Field;
MW-7, NE of Santa Ana Dorm;
MW-8, NE of Santa Ana Dorm;
MW-9, S. of Popejoy Hall;
MW-10, S. of HR Employment & Scholes official vehicle parking area -
west end; and,
DSMW-1, S. of Diamond Shamrock gas station on Central Ave.

At this time, we hope to do the monitoring work according to the
following estimated schedule/order:

Monday, 7/30/07 - MW-1, MW-6 and DSMW-1 ;
Tuesday, 7/31/07 - MW-9, MW-7, MW-8, and MW-2;
Wednesday, 8/1/07 - MW-3, MW-4, MW-5.

The schedule may change based on campus feedback regarding critical use
conflicts in the area.

SRS and/or Parking & Transportation will be barricading off parking
spots around those monitor wells for several hours on & before the day
of sampling. The barricading is intended to prevent parking patrons
from getting trapped behind well sampling equipment. Weather permitting,
we should finish sampling the parking lots monitor wells as quickly as
possible that same day - therefore no spaces should be barricaded any
longer than ~6 hours during the 8 am to 5 pm time frame.

Please advise personnel in your building/area that may be temporarily
affected by the parking barricading and well monitor work.
If you have concerns about activity conflicts near the monitor wells during the 7/30-8/1/07 time frame, please contact Vern Hershberger directly ASAP.

CENTENNIAL ENGINEERING BUILDING PROGRESS:

Check out the great webcam!

REDONDO DRIVE WEST NARROWER

Redondo Drive West – in front of the construction site for the new Centennial Engineering Center – is narrower.   There is a new handicapped and pedestrian route that goes from just south of the MLK/Redondo Intersection, along University Blvd on the sidewalk, and then back up to the area near Mechanical Engineering where a pathway has be cut into the berm and asphalted.

B Zone Parking Spaces on Redondo Displaced During Centennial Engineering Center Construction

B Zone parking spaces on Redondo Rd., across from the Centennial Engineering Center construction project, will be displaced until the new building is complete, approximately two years from now. B Zone Permit holders will no longer be able to park along the portion of Redondo Rd that runs parallel to University Blvd., between Central Ave. and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Alternative B Zone parking is available nearby at the Parking and Transportation Services Parking Lot on the northwest corner of University and Central.

 Parking-related inquiries may be directed to dmarkham@parking.unm.edu.

Lockshop

The Physical Plant Department's Lock Shop "walk-up" window will be closed every Friday until further notice. In case of emergency, please call 277-1061. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Handicapped Ramp

There will be a temporary metal handicapped ramp on the north side of the bookstore leading to the Cornell mall area. Blind pedestrians should possibly ask for assistance and others should offer assistance to help them to be aware of the ramp because it is now on the right against the bookstore instead of the left side before construction started. This will allow the impaired to understand their directions correctly. Thank you.

Other System Outages

UNM supplies its drinking water for Central Campus and portions of North Campus. South Campus and the remainder of North Campus run on the City of Albuquerque drinking water system. During UNM system outages, all campuses use City of Albuquerque drinking water system. For more information on the UNM drinking water system, log on to http://shea.unm.edu/enviro.html or for more information on the City of Albuquerque drinking water system, visit www.cabq.gov/waterquality

Camino del Servicio:

This road, which runs parallel to Camino de Salud and is of special interest to pedestrians, will remain closed due to the new hospital expansion. The road and its surrounding area will be occupied while construction crews connect the primary electrical lines to the future hospital. For more information on the crew's working area and weekly updates, please view the Richardson Pavilion page. Project planners understand that this road is of special interest to pedestrians and have consequently included designs to extend a bicycle path along this road. The road will no longer access Yale Blvd.
