The Law School Groundbreaking was April 18, 2001: Press Release
Photo taken on November 20, 2001. Project Information:
The new Hart Addition
will contain 32,000 square feet of usable space. Within the addition will
be eight classrooms: three 40-person classrooms (one of which can be converted
to a courtroom); four 20-person seminar rooms; and a dedicated courtroom.
All teaching spaces will be wired for the most advanced multimedia technology,
including computer and Web connections and video conferencing.
The new media technology will permit the recording of classes and lectures through an audio/video port in each classroom. The recordings will be available for later viewing on tape or through videoconferencing or the Web. Additionally, two courtrooms will have remote controlled cameras, microphones and digital presenters. The following equipment will be added:
After the Hart Addition is completed and the clinical program moves into its new space, we will remodel the current clinic space as a new faculty and student suite. Faculty offices and student study offices will be placed around the perimeter of the area, and a garden-style student organization center will be located in the center of the space. The student organization center will provide space for a host of student organizations that serve the co- and extra-curricular needs of our diverse student body. At one end of the area, an open lounge for faculty, students and staff will be created below large windows. At the other end, there will be a new conference room. This entire area will be served by a new heating and cooling system. The renovation of Bratton Hall will also include the establishment of the "Bruce King Reading Room," in honor of the venerable three-term Governor of the State, who also served as Speaker of the State House of Representatives, and Santa Fe City Councilperson. Governor King has been involved in the development of New Mexico public policy for more than 40 years. He has donated his papers to the School of Law and will help the School raise $750,000 for the renovation of space to house the King Papers. The Bruce King Reading Room will be adjacent to the Law Library and the new faculty/student area (old clinic). It will enhance the law library's ability to become a research center dedicated to New Mexico legal and political history.
