CASTETTER HALL RENOVATIONS FOR A NEW UNDERGRADUATE TEACHING LABORATORY IN MICROBIOLOGY (COBRE)
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This project will renovate 3160 square feet of existing lower level space in Castetter Hall for an Undergraduate Teaching Laboratory in Microbiology. The program includes a 24 station wet laboratory, warm and cold storage rooms, specimen preparation and transfer rooms, equipment wash and sterilization rooms, and laboratory equipment support space and storage. RATIONALE: This project relocates existing second floor laboratories, clearing areas assigned to the National Institute of Health (NIH), Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE)/ Center of Evolutionary and Theoretical Immunology (CETI) grant programs. This renovation will create a new "state of the art" laboratory for undergraduate microbiology students in space made available by program relocations to the new CERIA building. This project confirms to a recently completed long range Biology Department Facility Renewal Plan to consolidate undergraduate laboratories on a single location in Castetter Hall. FUNDING: The project budget is $490,000 funded with $400,000 from FY'04-05 Building Renewal and Replacement funds and $90,000 from FY'04-05 Indirect Costs Reimbursement (IDC) assigned to the Department of Biology.
