CASTETTER HALL (BIOLOGY DEPARTMENT) RENOVATIONS
PROJECT DESCRIPTION The existing facility was constructed in 1952 and expanded in 1967 to its present size of 126,871 sq ft. the project reconfigures and modernizes approximately 25,000 sq ft in the oldest sections of the building particularly the areas formerly occupied by collections-based laboratories and research support space that relocated to the former bookstore. A complete renewal and improvement of utility systems is planned for the recaptured space along with remodeling for the needs of current teaching and research. Castetter Hall is UNM's second largest academic priority in its five-year capital projects plan and the CHE ranked it 11th of 19 in its statewide "Significant Need" category of 2003-2004 Capital Projects Recommendations to the NM State Legislature. FUNDING The planning budget is $200,000 supported by FY2003 State of NM General Obligation Bond proceeds for Core Building Renewal, part of a statewide allocation. The total estimated project budget is $4,500,000 to be supported by a combination of federal grant funds and future state appropriations.
