The old child care building (Unit I) that has been removed and replaced.

Below the Phase I building (Unit II) remains in the new Childrens' Campus.

The project constructed 25,600 square feet of new space in a series of age-group clustered pavilions. It replaced the 17-year-old wooden modular structure and contains classrooms for 220 children, (newborns and infants to five-year-olds), a central kitchen, administrative offices and support.

Outdoor areas include protected and landscapted playgrounds, gardens and learning areas. The early childhood development program from the Manzanita Center of the College of Education has relocated from main campus to this facility centralizing the childcare needs of the University. The Phase I facility, a classroom and training center constructed in 1992 for the before/after school care program, remains in tact and contains space for 32 children.

The UNM Child Care Center is an accredited auxiliary enterprise of the University serving students, faculty and staff wil quality childcare services. In addition, it is a quality venue for the study of early childhood development. We are happy to replace the older building and expand the facility that has housed this valuable program since 1983.
