MANZANITA CENTER RENOVATIONS PROJECT DESCRIPTION This existing single story 930 sq ft facility was constructed in 1963. This project renovates and completely renews the space formerly occupied by the College of Education's Childcare Center. Interior spaces will be reconfigured foe counseling rooms, teaching laboratories, conference and support space and include the replacement of plumbing, heating, cooling, lighting, campus network and communication systems. The building envelope will receive new double-glazed, thermally broken windows, a new roof and a new exterior finish. RATIONALE Manzanita Center relocated their program to the new Early Childhood Care Campus on university Blvd in fall 2002, to share facilities and resources in a building complex better suited to programs serving the children of UNM's students, staff and faculty. The reuse of Manzanita Center not only recaptures valuable space in the heart of the campus it creates space for grant funded administrative training programs in the College of Education, including Centers for Multicultural Education, Community Learning, and the Institute for Professional Development. FUNDING The project budget is $790,100 funded by UNM Bond Reserves that were liquidated in conjunction with the FY2000 UNM System Revenue Bond Issue.
