First Portion of the Automated Vehicle Location System Unveiled

Jay Faught released information regarding this new computerized technology that will allow the Transit Department to track the location of every Rapid Ride vehicle and many paratransit vehicles. Eventually this system will be expanded to include every bus in the city.  In the near future ABQ RIDE plans to expand this technology further by allowing paratransit passengers to register their phone numbers, pagers or email addresses and have an automated message alert them when a paratransit van is within five minutes of their location.  This will reduce wait times for that service by 80 percent.

Each Rapid Ride vehicle has a GPS system on board.  Once the bus passes a trigger point along the route, it sends a signal back to the receiver and translates the location into a graphical form that is displayed on a large screen in the transit control center.

New West Side Route on Montano Sunday Rapid Ride Service Added

The City will change the bus routing structure in Albuquerque to meet the growing demand of new passengers. These changes, including several new bus routes, will take effect August 19, 2006. Click here to view the updated bus schedule.

B Zone Parking Spaces on Redondo Displaced During Centennial Engineering Center Construction Project

B Zone parking spaces on Redondo Rd., across from the Centennial Engineering Center construction project, will be displaced until the new building is complete, approximately two years from now. Beginningsometime in September, B Zone Permit holders will no longer be able to park along the portion of Redondo Rd that runs parallel to University Blvd., between Central Ave. and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Alternative B Zone parking is available nearby at the Parking and Transportation Services Parking Lot on the northwest corner of University and Central. This period of significant University growth presents many parking challenges. We would like to thank you for your continued support and patience. Please contact Stacy Nagyvary at 277-5692 if you have any questions or concerns.

HEAVY RAINS CREATE POTENTIALLY HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS

Albuquerque , N.M. – Motorists are advised to use caution while traveling on the NM highway system. Recent heavy rains in Bernalillo, Sandoval and Valencia Counties have caused problems which the Department continues to address.

Motorists should be alert for wet driving surfaces, puddles and loose gravel or debris on the roadway. Road shoulders may be extremely soft in some areas. Soils are saturated at culverts and drainage structures and additional moisture could cause further problems.

    The Rail Runner Express

The Rail Runner Express offers its services to the public beginning Friday, July 14, 2006. Click here for more information.

    "Downtown Get Around"

Mayor Martin Chávez and ABQ RIDE Director Greg Payne unveiled a new downtown bus route today called the “Downtown Get Around”.  This new bus service will begin circulating the downtown region on Friday, July 14 and will be free of charge to all passengers. Click here for more information.

STANFORD ENTRANCE TO UNM AT CENTRAL AVENUE WILL BE CLOSED MONDAY, NOVEMBER 21, 2005 through September 2007

Stanford from Central Avenue to Redondo on the UNM campus will close Monday morning, November 21, 2005, as construction begins for the new Architecture and Planning and Fine Arts Library, George Pearl Hall. There will be no entrance for visitors, students and staff in the Stanford area. Please use Yale or the entrance off Lomas at the University Hospital to access campus.

The roadway will be used only as a construction lay-down yard and a gated and flagger controlled construction truck entrance and exit from the building site.

Construction on the $28.7 million project begins on Monday, November 21, 2005 and will last through September 2007. Stanford will remain closed during this entire project.

Entry to the Visitor Parking Structure near the Stanford/Central area will be via a right turn only off of Redondo.

For more information on the project and the new traffic plan to enter the Visitor's Parking Garage while you attend classes, special events at the SUB/Popejoy Hall, shope at the bookstore, or visit campus.

Bike To Work Day was on May 19, 2006. Click here for more information.

Please park at designated bike racks only. The Paseo del Basque Bike Trail remains open for now. The zoo-bio park railroad project might require that the Basque bike trail close for a few months in the future. The contractor will try to keep the trail open. Bikes parked on disabled service rails along ramps and stairways as well as other improper locations may be impounded by UNM Police.

The UNM Police Department holds regular bike auctions (usually during Homecoming Week) of unclaimed, impounded bikes. Please register your bike with UNM PD.
