TAOS CAMPUS PHASE III- INSTRUCTIONAL BUILDING updated: February 14,2005

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Phase I of the new campus was completed in 1997 and Phase II just finished construction. Phase III is planned to contain an estimated 15,530 sq ft of classrooms for general and specialized instruction, natural science laboratories, shared faculty offices and support space. The next increment of utility, infrastructure and site development is also included.

Currently the project in the the conceptual phase which should end with construction documents done in December 2004. Phase 3 should start construction around January or February 2005.

RATIONALE

The recommended site is west of the phase II facility in keeping w\the 1994 Master Development plan for the UNM Taos Campus. The recent designation of Taos as an official branch institution takes effect July, 2003 strengthening UNM's higher education and vocational education presence in northern New Mexico. The Taos campus has registered the fastest enrollment growth in the State since 1993. This project responds to the increased demands for educational services in this region.

FUNDING

The estimated project budget is $3,152,000 funded by the following amounts. $2,000,000 from FY2002 State of New Mexico General Obligation Bond proceeds and $1,152,000 from Taos County Gross Receipts Tax Revenues.
