SIMULATED ION TRAP

Project Objectives:

  • Simulate characteristics of a Paul Trap
  • Demonstrate theory of trapping charged particles

Description of Applet:
The applet below is an simulated Paul Trap which has trapped a macroscopic charged particle. The ring and the electrodes are simulated being attached to an alternating current power supply.


User Navigation:

  • Click on the applet to re-insert a particle into the trap.
  • If the particle is inserted outside the trap it escapes. Just click near the center of the trap to insure its capture.
