There are many methods to locate people, places, companies, etc. via the Internet. This page describes common tools.

www.whowhere.com is used to find e-mail, Internet addressses and phone numbers, for people and companies.
www.switchboard.com is used to find phone numbers and mailing addresses for people and businesses.
www.wired.com/wiredsource/people.html is a collection of many sources of finding people.
www.internic.net is used to find people and businesses on the Internet. It is the Internic Directory and Database Services.

The most common Internet address for a business is to start the web address with www., put the company name in the middle, and end the address with .com (for commercial). So take a guess for a company name or place of business. For example, for the New York Times, try www.nytimes.com and for the Albuquerque Journal, try www.abqjournal.com.
The most common Internet address for an academic institution is to start the web address with www., put the institution's name in the middle, and end the address with .edu (for educational institution). For example, for Western Governors University try www.wgu.edu
Other common suffixes for web address are: .gov for government, .org for non-profit organization, .net for Internet organizations, .mil for the military.
