I am a professor of linguistics at the University of New Mexico. I study and describe signed languages — mostly American Sign Language, but with colleagues I’ve written about Italian Sign Language and Catalan Sign Language. I’m the author of a number of books and scholarly articles on linguistics, evolution of language, gesture, Deaf culture, and signed language interpreting.
