The 34 th Annual WRHC Conference was held in Anaheim, California last spring, April 12-14, 2007. The theme of the conference was “ Eureka! Discovery, Invention, Creativity.” The Conference was hosted by California State University, Fullerton. Susan Jacobsen served as the Conference Co-Chair with Carmen Curiel and Linsey Crow was the Student Representative.

It was an excellent conference beginning with the Opening Speaker, Amy Coplan, Assistant Professor of Philosophy at California State University, Fullerton. Her research interests include issues at the intersection of moral psychology and aesthetics, philosophy of emotion, and ancient Greek philosophy.

The keynote speaker was Art Hansen, an emeritus faculty member in History and Asian American Studies at California State University, Fullerton. The title of his talk was “Discovery, Invention, and Creativity in Oral History.”

The Scribendi staff hosted a debut reception to celebrate the 21 st issue of the magazine. Contributors and award winners spoke about their work. The WRHC award winners were Alex Woody, University of New Mexico for “Irresolute,” photography; Xenia Tashlitsky, University of California, Irvine for “Being Natasha,” essay; Dale F. Enggass, University of New Mexico for “A Flaming Dream,” fiction; Claire Barwise, University of Montana for “Praying Mantis,” poetry; Jason Wittenberg, Orange Coast College for “From All Sides,” visual art; and Karen Miner, Citrus Community College for “Volkswagen,” digital art. The literature winners were selected through a blind judging process by faculty from the University of Wyoming and the art winners were selected by faculty from the University of New Mexico.

There were many worthwhile and interesting sessions at the Conference.
