Meeting Notes from 7/31/03

1. Where are we?

It looks like for Calendaring AND Email we will be looking at:

Oracle, Groupwise, and SunOne.

Rosemary still has a couple she would like to still look at:

Share360 and Joydesk.

Then for Calendar only products (still evaluating):

Meeting Maker, WebcalNG, and Cyberscheduler.

Then for Email only products (web-based) Steve is looking at:

IMP, and Twig, and Squirrelmail.

For the next stage (the next few months), we’ll get the big guns to come and demo/present their product, others we’ll evaluate.

2. Steve has been checking large Universities, and it looks like IMP is the most used product out there by other Universities, followed by Captaris, but their product isn’t available anymore and was Windows-based.

3.  We only got one response from the Banner Transition Team:

“We moved from share Sendmail on UNIX to Mirapoint this year.

We are very, very happy with Mirapoint, which we have for both LDAP and email.  There have been no technical issues on the integration.”  (Theresa Rowe, Assistant Vice President, University Technology Services, www.oakland.edu/uts)

4. Discussed Oracle – Collaboration Suite

It seems to meet all the requirements.  Some of the things we need to discuss further are:

It uses it’s own LDAP, it’s own DB (which is Oracle9i – UNM is currently running), and the cost (to replace the current user base today) would be $60/user.  They are willing to come up with costs for site license too (but could break the 1million $ mark!)

5. Discussed SunOne

It also seems to meet many requirements.  Other issues:

They are trying to package SunOne with there Solaris boxes right now, and this product should be out in the next two quarters --- So this means the Linux port will not be available until “sometime” next year.

Their DB is “sleepy cat” – proprietary.

The web-server is not Apache, but will work with Apache (their web-server comes with the product).

Pricing is $2/FTE, with further breakdowns of how “much” FTE certain types of student/staff are for Educationals.
