For GRADUATION, Honors are based on your GPA posted the semester prior to your graduation (since grades are posted after the graduation ceremony in most cases). However, for your Diploma and Resume your Honors is based upon your FINAL GPA in your bachelor's education.
9. I am trying to register and I am told I have academic hold. What do I do?
Your need to contact your academic advisor (Dr. Kravitz for all Exercise Science students) before registering. After being admitted to the College of Education and Human Sciences you must speak with Dr. Kravitz (F2F or ZOOM) for a registration hold release. 10. After I graduate can I go back and get a minor?
No, the BS degree and minor must be awarded in the SAME semester.
11. Do I really need to take course ‘prereqs’?
ABSOLUTELY! With all UNM courses, taking the appropriate prereqs is a must. A professor can drop a student anytime during the semester if they discover a student has not completed a course prerequisite. As well, in the Exercise Science program WE TOO hold firm on students taking the required prereqs for our Exercise Science courses—this means the prereq must be completed prior to taking the class, and not taken concurrently with the class.
12. Do I need a 'minor' if I am an Exercise Science major.
A minor is NOT required with your Exercise Sceicne B.S degree.
13. What happens if a student is removed by an agency from an internship site?
The student will need to 'pivot' to completing the PEP 495 with a Research Internship. If the student has a second internship to fulfil then it will also be a Research PEP 495 Internship.
14. What Physics coures are required for the Exercise Science major?
We accept Physics 1115 or Physics 1230. For those of you going on in the medical professionals the Physics 1230 with LAB is required as well as Physics 1240/1240?. So, always check with the institutions you will be applying to for your graduate education for their prereq requirements.
15. Where can I find information about the UNM calendar of holidays and final exams?
Go to the registrar's WEB page: CLICK HERE
16. Can I take some general education courses CR/NC and if so, how many hours can I take this way?
Students are able to take up to 12 hours of CR/NC coursework in the General Education Core classes.
To get a CR for a course, a student must attain a grade equivalent to a "C"
or better. The CR is thus not factored into a student's GPA.
17. How many hours can I take in both (first session and second session) summer school sessions?
Undergraduate students are allowed to take a total load of 9 hours for both summer school sessions combined.
18. When must I complete my graduation check if I wish to graduate by May.
The deadline for a May graduation is the completion of your graduation check by October 1.
To Graduate in the FALL Semester (December) your check must be complete by May 1
To Graduate in SUMMER Semester (August) your check must be complete by March 1
19. What do I do for a graduation check?
We now do graduation checks via an online process. Contract Dr. Kravitz the semester BEFORE you are planning on graduation for instrctions.
20. What color tassels do graduates in the COEHS wear?
Sage green tassels
21. When I retake a class to REPLACE my grade with a better grade, how do I make sure the UNM Records department replaces my grade for the class with the BETTER grade?
Grade Replacements are now done online CLICK HERE TO FOLLOW THE PROCESS.

How do I tell if my Grade Replacement has been processed:
An "E" appears on the transcript next to the course (on the right) that has been replaced.

Also, to REPLACE a grade at UNM you must retake the class at UNM—you cannot take the course at CNM if you want to REPLACE the GRADE at UNM. However, if you repeated the course at CNM and got a ‘C’ or better, it would transfer to UNM as a CR. The UNM grade will still remain on your transcript (thus affecting your GPA).
22. If I test out of a core class with High School prerequisits or entrance exams, say one of the Math classes, do I still need to take 6 hours of Math?
Yes, however, if the couse offers a challenge test, you can challenge the course, and if successful, that will suffice for credit.
23. Can you walk at Spring graduation if you are planning on graduating in Summer?
The Registrar's Office has gone away from the remaining credit hours (it had for many years) to PENDING graduation date status. If your graduation is OFFICIALLY listed as “PENDING” for Summer, you can walk in Spring commencement. To check your PENDING status, contact Dr. Kravitz to connect you with the COEHS Operations Manager. However, your name will not be printed in the graduation convocation program.
24. What if I get a C+ (or below) in an Exercise Science or PRPE Course? Can I take the next level class or do I have to repeat the class first?
Our Exercise Science policy is ALL STUDENTS (Exercise Science and Non-Exercise Science) must repeat the class first (at the earliest opportunity). However, we realize that issues occur “beyond a student’s full control” and therefore you may PETITION the Exercise Science Coordinator to allow you to move forward in the program (while repeating the class at your earliest opportunity). The Exercise Science faculty will act on this PETITION.
25. What if I get a ‘C-’ or below in a course NOT in the Exercise Science Program and it is the PREREQ for another NON-Exercise Science Course (Such as the sequencing science courses)...do I need to repeat the course?
You have to follow the policy of that Department, or the Professor teaching the class as to moving forward in a sequence class NOT in the Exercise Science program. Remember, you will have to repeat that class for the Exercise Science program (B- or better is required for all PEP and :PRPE courses and 'C' or higher in NON-PEP courses within the Exercise Science program).
26. What if I am transfering a Math and/or Stats class from a different university or college? Will this count for the core?
Your COEHS advisor will best advise you on this answer. You may hav to go to the Math Department and meet with the appropriate staff or faculty. They may request a transcript evaluation of your transfer Math and/or Stats courses to make sure they fulfill the requirements of Math 121 and/or Stats 145.
27. What is the Exercise Science Academic Dishonesty Policy?
Academic dishonesty is defined from the UNM Student Code of Conduct as “dishonesty in quizzes, tests or assignments; claiming credit for work not done or done by others; hindering the academic work of other students; misrepresenting academic or professional qualifications within or without the University; and nondisclosure or misrepresentation in filling out applications or other University records." The Exercise Science faculty support the importance of academic integrity. A student violating academic dishonesty guidelines will receive an “F” for the course. A second violation will result in the student being withdrawn from the ES program.
28. What is the Exercise Science program ADD policy/procedure for CLOSED Classes?
1. Graduating Exercise Science Seniors get first priority to add (with instructor approval)
2. Upper Division Exercise Science students get second preference (with instructor approval)

4. All other UNM students get fourth preference (with instructor approval)
29. If I test 'out' of a requird English classes in Exercise Science program, what English class must I take for the 3 hours of English I tested out of taking.
Great question, as many students test 'out' of an English class when they apply to UNM. Always check the other accepted General Education classes in that area and speak with your COEHS advisor. You need 9 hours of Writing and Speaking in the Exercise Science program.
30. What is the Exercise Science Policy for Unit Overload Requests (more than 18 semester hours in Fall and Spring)?
In Exerccise Science a student may not take more than 18 semester hours during Fall and Spring sessions and 9 semester hours during Summer session EXCEPT with approval from the student’s academic advisor (contact Dr. Kravitz).
31. I am a transfer student from another university (or college). When can I apply to the Exercise Science program?
Regardless of the number of hours you have transferring, all transfer students must successfully complete ONE semester (15 credit hours or more) at UNM Main campus (with a 3.2 GPA) prior to admission into the Exercise Science program Students must also have completed a total of 26 college hours and successfully completed Biol 2210/2210L.

No, we do not accept audits for any Exercise Science classes? You must complete the class for a grade.
33. How many times can I repeat a REQUIRED course in the Exercise Science Program?
You must get a B- or better in all PEP and PRPE courses in the Exercise Science program. If you do not attain a B- in an Exercise Science PEP or PRPE course you will need to take the course a Second time. If on the Second attempt of the class a student does not attain a B- or better the student will be removed from the Exercise Science program.
