"You still haven't told me why there is an ice cap on Antarctica," complains our grade-school scholar.
"I know, I know, let me finish.
Would you believe me if I told you that not much snow falls on the ice cap in the middle of Antarctica? It is a place covered with snow and ice, miles thick, but it doesn't snow very much."
"Sure, I believe you, but where does the snow come from?"
"The snow is carried inland by the same storms that form over the ocean near the continent. Cyclones, like some kids I know, do not stay put. They have a habit of wandering off from the place they were born. Once in a while, a storm will wander over the ice cap, bringing a little snow.
