Antarctica was just another big, cold place, but then something elso happened......

The land and the continents on each side of Antarctica started to move and pull away, leaving Antarctica all alone, surrounded for the first time by an ocean. The first cyconic storms were weak, but because they were over the ocean and because the land near the ocean was cold, the storms soon started to get seriously strong.

The winds coming off the land were not cold enough, and they are not blowing hard enough to make a really big storm. But they were big enough to dump some snow around the edge of the continent. And when the snow came, the land next to the ocean got much colder.
