# jemdoc: menu{ECE545_MENU}{index.html}, showsource = UNM ECE445/545: Introduction to Quantum Information Science == Course Overview The field of quantum information science (QIS) has experienced tremendous growth in the last few years thanks to the progress made in developing experimental quantum information processing platforms. The intent of this course is to introduce students to the major ideas of QIS, highlighting its interdisciplinary nature. It will serve the purpose of creating a common language and foundation upon which students can pursue advanced topics in Quantum Information Science. The course is designed to be self-contained, so no knowledge in quantum mechanics will be assumed. An advanced engineering mathematics background (at least on the level of ECE 300), which should include basic concepts from linear algebra such as vector spaces, linear transformations, eigenvalues, and eigenvectors, should be sufficient. ~~~ For questions regarding the course, please contact [talbash@unm.edu Tameem Albash]. ~~~ == Course Outline . The formalism of QIS: a linear algebra review . Postulates of quantum mechanics and their consequences . Introduction to quantum communication . Introduction to quantum computing . Introduction to quantum metrology
