Why/what do you like about hikidashi?

Hikidashi, as far as pottery goes, is the most instant form of expression. You can’t fake the effect.

Do tea bowls have a special meaning to you that is different than the rest of your work?

You could say that tea bowls are the pinnacle of Japanese pottery, a free form of expression.

Do the designs on the work you sent have any significance?

It’s a UFO on a tea bowl...a challenge to all those people who are still drawing radishes on there pots, stop looking at the old...kick it in the head and see what falls out.

Do you consider your work to be traditional or contemporary?

My work draws from traditional and contemporary . My whole thinking is like hip hop, take this and mix it with that....make something new from the old.

What are a few major influences in your work?

My main influences are a lot of 16th century Mino dead guys. Nietzsche is a major influence on my thinking and Burkowski makes me laugh. The living ones are Koie Ryoji (contemporary Japanese ceramic artist) and Suzuki Goro (contemporary Japanese ceramic artist). Henry Rollins has made me think alot as well.
