PREFACE AND CONTENTS

PREFACE

The fourth part of the "I Was There" series, this volume deals with selected experiences I had while attending Bowling Green (Kentucky) High School during the years 1924 through 1928.

The reader must allow for certain deviations from "the truth, " whatever that is. In fact, in some cases I really do not know for sure what parts of the stories are fact and what parts fancy. Details become vague with the passage of more than half a century.

I do know, however, that all of them represent what I think happened. And since memory and perception are perhaps just as real as reality itself, debate about which is which is pointless.

I hope those reading these stories will enjoy them as much as I have in recalling the experiences and writing about them.

In recognition of the many excellent teachers I had while at Bowling Green High School, but particularly in gratitude for what Miss Nina McGinnis and Miss Belle Potter did to inspire me and to guide and help me at this crucial time of my life, I dedicate this volume to the loving memory of these two great ladies.
