Chester Travelstead is Provost Emeritus of the University of New Mexico. He was born September 25, 1911 in Franklin, Kentucky and currently resides in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Dr. Travelstead had a distinguished career as an educator culminating in his being appointed the first Provost at the University of New Mexico. At his retirement the Regents of UNM approved his appointment Provost Emeritus of the University, a title he still holds. He later was awarded the degree of Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from the University. More recently the Regents of the University honored him by naming the College of Education's award winning building "Travelstead Hall."

More information about Dr. Travelstead and his family will come alive as you read the autobiographical vignettes contained in this website. These vignettes were written after his retirement beginning in 1979.
