PREFACE AND CONTENTS

Preface

The "I Was There" series means just that: I was there! The stories in this Volume V and the preceding volumes are accounts of what I remember actually happening to and around me during my boyhood years. Names, places, and times are not always accurate, I expect, since time-a half century in some cases-has a way of dimming the memory. But all these stories represent what I think took place. In none of the have I intentionally fictionalized.

If it appears to the reader that some of the stories are pure fancy-not really autobiographical-I will not argue with such a views, since neither the reader nor I can prove or disprove what I have set down in my reminiscing.

So please just read the stories, and may you enjoy them as much as I have in remembering and writing them.
