Gabriela Spanic and Miguel de León went to Alaska on vacation and
the eight days they spent in that distant land made them feel as if they
were in heaven given that they practically enjoyed a second honeymoon
there. The couple flew from Mexico to Los Angeles and then to
Vancouver but no one had informed them they needed a visa to enter Canada.
"We asked in Mexico and were
told that a visa wasn't necessary. That's true for Mexican nationals;
not for Venezuelans. We trusted our source but on arriving at
the Vancouver airport, they wouldn't let us in. We were held in
a small room for three hours while the issue was cleared up. At
last, they gave us a permit allowing us to enter and enjoy our vacation.
That was the trip's anecedote," said Miguel de León
in-between laughs but who was very concerned at the time.
The first place they went to was Juneau, a beautiful city, and
according to them: "It was the most
exciting part of the trip because we boarded a helicopter and descended
on Mendenhall glacier. It was a unique experience and
the best part of it was, we were well-prepared for the weather
whereas the other tourists were dying from the cold. On board ship,
they would look at us strangely because we had so many outer layers on;
but once on top of the glacier, we were able to fully enjoy everything
because we weren't cold." Souvenirs and fur articles are
in abundance there so they went shopping. Afterwards, they visited
Skagway, jump-off point for many excursions. They opted to remain on
board ship that day and disembarked closeby.
"Later on, we headed towards the highest glacier in the world, the
Hubbard. We saw it up close. It's exciting to see how the
rivers of ice drop into the sea. One can hear a thunderous roar
and then absolute silence."
"We later proceeded to Ketchikan. It was like
being in a movie where one walks very slowly."
"The beauty of the cruise was the intimacy it
gave us. It was not the kind of vacation where one goes to a
discotheque, a party or the beach. Everything was very tranquil,
very spiritual. Which makes you think a lot. It's like being
in heaven because of the silence one breathes," they said.

Gabriela Spanic y Miguel de León se fueron de vacaciones a Alaska,
y los ocho dias que estuvieron por tierras lejanas, los hicieron sentirse
como en el mismo cielo, ya que practicamente disfrutaron de una segunda
luna de miel. La pareja voló de México a Los
Ángeles, y luego a Vancouver, pero nadie les dijo que necesitaban
visa para entrar en Canadá. "Preguntamos
en México, y nos dijeron que no se necesitaba visa, pero eso es para
los mexicanos, no para los venezolanos. Nos confiamos, y al llegar
al aeropuerto de Vancouver, no nos dejaban entrar. Nos tuvieron en
un cuartito por tres horas, mientras se arreglaba el asunto. Por
fin, nos dieron un permiso para entrar y disfrutar de estas
vacaciones...esa fue la anécdota del viaje," dijo entre
risas Miguel de León, pero que en si momento, estuvo demasiado
preocupado.
El primer lugar al que llegaron fue Juneau, una ciudad muy bella,
según contaron: "Fue lo más
emocionante del viaje porque nos subimos en un helicóptero y
bajamos al glacier Mendenhall...fue una experiencia única,
y lo mejor de
todo era que íbamos bien abrigados, mientras los otros turistas se
morian de frío. En el barco, ellos nos miraban raro por traer
tantas chamarras, pero ya en la cima del glacier, lo pudimos disfrutar
todo, porque no teníamos frío." En ese lugar,
fueron de compras. Lo que abunda son souvenirs y prendas de cuero;
después visitaron Skagway, donde hubo excursiones, pero ese
día, decidieron quedarse en el barco, y bajar cerca de allí.
"Después nos dirigimos hacia el glacier
más alto del mundo, el Hubbard, lo vimos muy de cerca. Es
emocionante como van cayendo rios de nieve hacia el mar, se escucha un
fuerte ruido, y luego un silencio absoluto."
"Después seguimos hacia Ketchikan; era como
estar en una película, es el típico caminas muy
lentamente."
"Lo bonito del crucero fue la intimidad que nos
dió. No fueron las vacaciones en que te vas a la disco, al
reventon ó la playa. Fue todo muy tranquilo, espiritual.
Eso te hace pensar muchas cosas. Es como estar en el cielo,
por la quietud que se respira," dijeron.
