Structure and function of deep roots accessed via caves in central Texas.

Another long term research project (in collaboration with Rob Jackson, and Andrew McElrone) addressed the structure and function of deep roots and their contribution to whole plant function. This work has included surveys of caves to determine rooting depth in the karst terrain of central Texas and measurements of root function in caves and tree canopies on the surface. Jessica Snider is currently conducting her thesis research on the interaction of vegetation with cave environments.
