Chains
The Blue Whale story includes examples of one-way Chains. Evolution of the Blue Whale is a chain. Other chains are the one-time movement of Antarctica to the South Pole, radioactive decay of elements, and the Big Bang.

Heirarchy of Loops

The story of the Blue Whale shows how loops are organized and entrained into a heirarchy that reflects their evolutionary history.

For example, ocean and atmosphere loops (2, 3) are entrained in mantle loops (1). The Ice loop came later and fits into the ocean and atmosphere hydrologic loop. The nutrient loop (4) is entrained in ocean loops and driven by wind and ice loops, and the Blue Whale's travel loop is entrained in all the others. The Heirarchy of loops is similar to the order or sequence of their creation.

How the Blue Whale's loops fit into concepts of repetition and change in Nature is considered in a planned section on Loops and Chains.
