The Land Grant Studies Program (LGSP) is an interdisciplinary program created in 2008 by the Southwest Hispanic Research Institute (SHRI), with support from the state of New Mexico, seeks to advance the study of mercedes and to provide students an opportunity to work with community land grant boards of trustees and on land grant issues.
The LGSP has opened a competition for paid internship opportunities for the fall of 2009. The internship opportunity has been created to offer undergraduate and graduate students an opportunity to addressing some of the needs of the approximately 30 mercedes/community land grants and to learn more about these historic communities. The internship may begin as early as August and will end in December, with the possibility of continuing in the spring semester.
To be eligible, the student must be currently enrolled at one of the UNM campuses, either in Albuquerque, or a branch campus. UNM students enrolled in professional degree programs such as law, architecture and community planning, and business are also encouraged to apply. Other eligibility criteria are specified in the internship criteria .PDF document that may be dowloaded at the link below.
