A model of a grain mill
2012.91.32, model of a grain mill; Han Dynasty (206 B.C.–A.D. 220)
Eason Eige Collection; photos by B. Bernard.

The tomb offerings known as mingqi include small modeled scenes from domestic and farm life, such as the equipment used to mill grain. In this case the grain mill was modeled as a stand-alone element. The second photo shows the mill with the top removed.

If you have grain to mill, you also need a place to store the grain until it's ready to mill. To see a model of a granary, please click here.
