2012.91.67, Jun ware jar, Jin or Yuan dynasty (A.D. 1115–1368)

The body of this jar includes four appliqué elements that are almost drowned in blue glaze—a deliberate artistic effect. The blue glaze comes to a thick, almost lip-like end at the base of the vessel—again deliberate. The blue glaze was applied over brown glaze, while the unglazed ceramic paste can be seen at the foot of the jar. The jar is 7 3/4 inches (19 1/2 cm) tall.
