Is the vessel textured?
If YES, go to Page 2a. If NO, continue to the next question.

Is there a chalky white slip over a brown or tan surface?
If YES, see Villa Ahumada Polychrome. If NO, continue to the next question.

Does the paste have an obvious orange tinge?
If YES, go to Page 2b. If NO, continue to the next question.

Is the paste ivory to tan, with a polished but unslipped surface? If YES, go to Page 2c. If NO, continue to the next question.

Are there zones of red, white, and/or black-on-white?
If YES, see Escondida Polychrome. If NO, you may not have a Casas Grandes polychrome. Other possibilities include misfired or refired vessels, and vessels that do not fall into the named types.
