Research Interests: historical geography, environmental knowledge, water resources, history and geography of science, critical physical geography, irrigation, dams, arid landscapes, American Southwest, Atlantic World, history of cartography

 

Teaching Interests: active learning, peer instruction, student-centered classrooms, field trips, nature and society, theory and methods in geography, world regions, New Mexico and the Southwest, historical geography, the Americas

 

Currently working on:

· An NSF-funded research project on historical transitions in water resource management in New Mexico and the arid West.

· An NSF-funded project to create and analyze a historical GIS of territorial-era water disputes in New Mexico.

· An investigation of land managers’ decision-making strategies relate to perceptions of landscape change in the Rio Grande valley and the wider American Southwest
