On your initial draft of each analytical paper, along with your score, I will write end comments on your papers as well as a writing style graph consisting of seven categories rated from 1-5 (weakest = 1, strongest = 5). This scale is intended to give you another kind of evaluation that will help you understand the strengths and weaknesses of your writing. However, the numbers on this scale are not computed to determine your paper's score.

E = Engagement, how well your essay grabs your reader's interest;
T = Thesis, how clearly your thesis is focused and how well
     it directs the development of your essay;
C = Coherence, how clearly and effectively sentences and
     paragraphs convey ideas that relate to each other;
F = Fullness, how thoroughly and completely the essay
     develops ideas;
S = Specifics, how accurately and effectively details and specific
     examples are used to support your ideas;
O = Organization, how carefully and clearly the various parts
     of your essay are organized;
M = Mechanics, how correctly you follow grammar rules,
     spelling, punctuation and documentation.
