Doctoral Program Notes:
Student must have a total of 72 credit hours beyond B.S. degree plus 18 hours of dissertation

The graduate diploma now reads: Ph.D. in Physical Education, Sports and Exercise Science

Graduate students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Policy from OGS: "Unless specifically exempted (in writing) by the program's graduate committee, a student must have successfully completed (with no incompletes, a GPA of 3.00 or better for the required courses or approved substitutions thereof, and no grades below B in any of the required courses) all the required courses in order to be eligible to sit for the written examination."

Students taking any class while classified as a ‘non-degree’ student (i.e., before full admittance into the graduate program) must get a ‘B‘ or better for the course to have it count in the plan of studies.

Make sure you list your classes in all parts of the POS form in chronological order

Student must have 16 inquiry skills (statistics and research design)

Graduate students can take 6 hours of CR/NC Electives (non-core) classes towards their gradaute degree.

Your Masters Thesis may count towards inquiry if it was a statistically based thesis; discuss this with your advisor

Student must have minor or
supporting areas of 24 hours: These are classes outside of PEP!

Once the student is Advanced to Candidacy, the time limit of five years for completion of all degree requirements starts. Student advances to candidacy with the following: 1) submitted complete program of studies, 2) Certificate of language or research skill requirement form (on plan of studies form) and 3) record of having passed the comprehensive examination. If a student does not complete the dissertation in the five years after Advancing to Candidacy the student will have to retake their comprehensive examinations and then move forward with a proposal (or re-proposal) and defense of their dissertation.

When working on your dissertation, you cannot sign up with one instructor for all 18 hours of dissertation in ONE semester.

Walking at Graduation Clarification: "If a student WILL BE COMPLETE with their dissertation (meaning it is turned in to OGS with proper sign-off paperwork from the Dissertation Director) by the day of graduation, they MAY WALK at the Spring ceremony. However, since the student did not meet the April 15 deadline, his/her degree will be officially registered as a summer graduation."

If you complete your dissertation and submit after April 15 and before May 16 we can check the
Courtesy Policy on your submission. This allows you to complete the dissertation without signing up for any Summer Hours.

Masters’s Program Notes
All work toward a Master’s degree must be completed within a five-year period

The M.S. OGS Candidacy form (and Intent to Graduate Form) needs to be submitted the semester before graduating

MS Code on POS form is 080

All members of the MS committee may be from the same (ES) department

Degree is in Physical Education with emphasis in Exercise Science

The M.S. student may take a substitution course Credit/No Credit with permission of the advisor and instructor of record
