Purpose and objectives
The major purpose of this course is to provide you with technical knowledge and skills necessary to write and to publish professional papers. A secondary purpose is to acquaint you with the requirements of journals in your area of specialization and to provide you with first-hand experience with the publication process.
By the end of the semester, each student will:
1) Recognize the importance of publication as an essential part of the scientific research process and to realize that scholars have a responsibility to share their knowledge with colleagues in the form of publication
2) Identify the publication outlets and publication requirements of various journals in your field or area of specialization
3) Analyze published papers and prepare a manuscript for publication
4) Deal with the mechanics of the submission, review, revision, and publication processes.
Prerequisites:
If you are writing a scientific data-based research article, your data analysis must be completed by February 5, 2001.
If you are writing a research-based literature review paper or scientifically-based information article for a professional journal, your related literature must be thoroughly read and analyzed by February 5, 2001.
