HTML5 Slide Deck w/ Casacde

September 11, 2011 - Matt Carter

I started working on my presentation for the Cascade Server User Conference a few weeks ago.  As is typical I began creating my slide deck in PowerPoint. I have always user PowerPoint for my presentation and never really thought about trying something else.  While I am an Mac user, I have never tried Keynote.

When I attended this weeks Webuquerque Jason Nakai did a presentation on HTML5 Media Elements.  He did the presentation using HTML5.  I have seen several presentation done as webpage before and seen some recent HTML5 presentation done by Google. I thought why not give it a try and do my conference presentation as an HTML5 slide deck.

I grabbed the html5slides template form the html5slides Google Code page.  After scanning the code a bit I thought this could be done in Cascade very easily.  So here is quick run down of how I did it...

  1. Create a basic template using the outer structure of the html5slides template
  2. Created a Data Definition that collects the primary details about my presentation and the slides.
  3. A quick and easy XSLT format for the main content and couple extra for customization

Within about an hour I had recreated my PowerPoint as and HTML5 slide deck using Cascade.
