I
am interested in how the mind controls itself. How do we selectively process one stimulus
while avoiding distraction from other stimuli? Can salient stimuli (like a flashing banner
ad on the web) capture spatial attention against your will? How do we set ourselves to perform tasks
that serve our goals, rather than reacting reflexively to salient
stimuli? What are the capacity
limitations of the human mind? I am
also interested in cognitive aging, cognitive neuroscience, and mathematical
modeling. I
am currently seeking new graduate students.
