Educational Computer Games

Computer.jpg (40141 bytes) I love playing in the computer. My parents have bought me a lot of educational games. I learnt typing using Mavis Beacon, I type all my class assignments using "Claris Works." For creative writing, I use my "destination ocean" and "rain forest" CDs. My Math blaster and Word blaster games are fun. When I go through my Reading blaster, if I can pass all the stages, I free a prisoner from Dr. Davil. So far I have made six prisoners free. For my class research projects I often use my Encarta. Also the Internet comes in handy for collecting information from various databases. I have some "middle school programs" but have not used them yet.

Computer is a big source of fun games for me. I love sports – I have Madden 98 football, NHL hockey, FIFA soccer, and NBA basketball games. Sometimes I play with the computer as my opponent, other times I play with my mom, dad, or friends. Once I was playing football with my mom, I won with a score of 40 to 0, it was great. I trade players all the time and make my favorite team the super USA all star. My Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy games are good past time for me. One game I love is Where in the World is Carmen San Diego – it is so much interesting to get hold of the crooks using clues and knowledge of geography. The only sad thing is that I got through catching all the criminals – when I got to the rank of "Super Sleuth" – I had to retire because that is how the game is designed. Well, the good news is that I have recently gotten the Carmen San Diego Word Detective, which is fun and a lot harder too. Sometimes to challenge myself, I play the strategy games of "Lost World" and "Escape from Horror Land."

My goal before the millennium arrives is to read at least ten other Newberry award books. I really like books on "space" – I am enchanted by what lies beyond this world of ours.

Sports Card CollectionPe03332a.gif (1787 bytes)

My hobby is to collect sports cards or more specifically "football" and "ice hockey" cards. I have an album full of cards. I borrow a book on Football Cards from our neighborhood library and note the prices. I do not intend selling or trading but just want to note the prices to see how much my cards are worth. I go to a novelty store called "Noble" near my neighborhood and buy cards at least once a month. Sometimes I quiz my mom and give her an assignment to check the value of a card, it’s sad but most of the time she comes out with a wrong answer. I still need to collect a lot of "hall of fame" player cards, they are expensive so it may take me a while.

Board and Card GamesBs00825a.gif (3117 bytes)Pe03325a.gif (3991 bytes)

My favorite board games are Monopoly, Life, and Jumanji. We play these games as a family. Jumanji is a fun game but it often takes very long to play, but if one has seen the movie, he or she enjoys it more than others. Monopoly is fun when I am winning, I get bored if I have to shell out large cash amounts to other players. Backgammon, Cluedo, Trivia Pursit are great games too, especially Trivia Pursuit get me challenged. I played Chinese Checkers but did not enjoy it too much.

Card games are my favorite too. I learned a lot of tricks one year at a YMCA summer camp and caught my mom and dad off guard. Card games of "Speed," "Solitaire," and "Chance" can keep me entertained for long hours on rainy and snowy days.

Domestic and International Travel

I consider myself really lucky, I have travelled a lot in ten years of my life. My grandparents live far away in India, so I go and visit them every two years. Its a long journey, the flights and layovers last forever, but it is so interesting to see the many new places and airports, and not to mention the taste of so many types of food. I have travelled to India flying over the Pacific Ocean all the time and stopped over at Osaka, Tokyo, Taipei, Singapore, and Bangkok. I go to Calcutta, which is a big city with 12 million people, to see my grandparents. People in India are very warm, and my family there loves me so much that I always want to go back and visit them.

I have travelled quite a bit within the United States. I went to Hawaii – Oahu, Kawai, Polynesian Cultural Center; California – Disneyland, Sea World, Wild Animal Park; Arizona – Grand Canyon; all over New Mexico, Colorado – Pikes Peak, Rocky Mountain National Park; New York – New York city, Niagara Falls; Pennsylvania – Philadelphia, Pittsburgh; New Jersey – Atlantic city; Washington D.C. – Smithsonians, Memorials, Washington Monument, White House, The US Capitol; Florida – Disneyworld, Universal Studios, Epcot Center, Busch Gardens, Kennedy Space Center; Massachusetts – Boston Museum of Science, Cambridge, Cape Cod; Connecticut – New Haven, Hartford; Rhode Island – Providence, New Port; and Georgia – Atlanta. I enjoy the scenic beauty but more than that I love the Disneyland and Disneyworld, they are so much fun. If you ask me to choose between mountains and beaches, I will go for the beaches. I love the sea, sand, and sea shells. I want to go back to Hawaii again.
