After John Wall (a doctor) and William Davis (an apothecary) developed a method for creating porcelain, and after lining up investors, they opened a factory in Worcester, England. Much of the early pottery, such as the example shown on this page, openly imitated Chinese examples. In 1788 George III granted the company a royal warrant, and since then the ware made by the company has been known as Royal Worcester.
