ChartsThe chart assignments are designed to help you learn the many muscles associated with communication. This sample chart will guide you in filling in the charts for each section. For the pictures, I encourage you to draw in structures by hand rather than using drawings from the internet - you will learn more that way. Chart 1 (Respiration) due 02/02 Case StudiesIn investigating these case studies, you will learn how disease and injury can affect the anatomy and physiology underlying speech, language, hearing, or swallowing. You may be required to read journal articles, book chapters, or websites to complete these assignments. Your case study document should be typed double-spaced in a 12-point font with 1 inch margins. Your paper should not exceed five pages, including any drawings. Double-sided printing is fine. Please do not include a cover page (let's try to save a few trees), but do make sure your name appears in the upper right corner of the front page. You will be graded on the accuracy and completeness of your paper as well as the clarity of your writing (including grammar and spelling). If you feel that you are not a good writer, you can make an appointment at CAPS, the tutoring service located in Zimmerman Library to receive some assistance. It is very important for you to phrase what you've read in the soruces in your own words. There should be no direct quotes in your papers. The goal is for you to demonstrate that you have understood what you've read in the source material, and that you can use your knowledge of normal anatomy and physiology to explain the impact of disorder or injury on speech, language, swallowing, or hearing. Here is the rubric that I will use to grade your papers. Case Study #1 due 3/29/12 Case Study #2 due 5/03/12
