Blue-and-white plates are commonly made today, but most are examples of transferware, which uses printed designs. In contrast, the plates shown below were hand-painted. Given their size and shape, they were made for export to Western markets. On a different page we introduce blue-on-white plates that may have been for Chinese domestic use.
