David's Lineage:

David was born near Reading, Berks Co., Pa., Nov. 3, 1820 and died Jan. 4, 1895, at Salem, Roanoke Co., Va. He began life as a cabinet maker in Chambersburg, Franklin Co., Pa., where he married. He helped rebuild the court house burned by the Confederate army; next engaged in making fanning mills at that place. Later he had shops at Williamsport, Washington Co., Md., Staunton and Salem, Roanoke Co., Va. In 1858 he is reported to have been living in Botetourt Co., Va.

On Jan. 1. 1846, David married (1) Magdalena Hattle (born Mrch 4, 1824 in Germany and died Oct. 1, 1866). She was the daughter of Heinrich and Catharine (Rumbelchor) Hattle.

He married (2) Lucy Jane (Frantz) Shaver (born Feb. 16, 1836 and died in Roanoke Co., Va. Oct. 28, 1894). She was the widow of Henry Sidney Shaver (five children) and daughter of Jacob and Eliza (Petty) Frantz.

Children by the first marriage, (7):

1. Mary Adams, born Dex. 1, 1846; died May 8, 1896. She married
George G. Atwood, Adrian, Mich.

2. Elizabeth was born Oct. 14, 1848, in Staunton, Agusta Co., Va.
She married Philip E. Firebaugh on Feb. 12, 1871, at Fincastle,
Botetourt Co., Va. He was born April 9, 1842, at Amsterdam Botetourt
Co., Va. He was the son of Philip M.and Mary (Arnold) Firebaugh,
address, Academy St., Salem, Va. They had no children.

3. John Alexander, born Oct. 25, 1850 and married Lula M. Kelly.

4. William Asbury, born March 6, 1853 and died July 13, 1857.

5. Edmund Green, born July 2, 1854 and died Oct. 14, 1905.
He married Isabella C. Smith.

6. Emma Virginia, born Aug. 1, 1857 and died Oct. 1, 1903, at Adrian,
Michigan. She was married to William J. Brown, a carpenter.

7. Anna Lavinia, born July 26, 1862 and married George Augustus Willis.

Children by second marriage, three:

1. David Etchison, born Nov. 17, 1873 and died Feb. 5, 1911;
educated in the public schools; graduated (A. M.) form
William and Mary College; taught public schools
in Accomac and Roanoke counties, Va.; unmarried.

2. Frank Leighton, born Nov. 13, 1875 and married Nana Mae
Studebaker.

3. Marshall Frantz Bertram, born Sept. 9, 1877 and married Anna willis.
