মোঃ মোত্তালেব হোসেন

Ph.D., Optical Science Engineering
Electrical and Computer Engineering Department

University of New Mexico (UNM)
Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA

Dr. Hossain received his Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering (EEE) from Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) in Bangladesh in 2009. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Optical Science and Engineering (OSE) from the University of New Mexico (UNM) in 2015 and 2019, respectively.

Dr. Hossain's Ph.D. dissertation research was focused on the algorithmic multi-color CMOS avalanche photodiodes (APDs) for smart lighting applications. He worked as a graduate research assistant with ECE Professor Majeed M. Hayat. His research interests include silicon photonics, semiconductor processing, CMOS APDs, spectral sensing algorithm, smart-lighting, visible-light communication, quantum key distribution, and quantum dot lasers. Dr. Hossain's technical and software skills include semiconductor fabrication processing, thin films, diffusion, planar, lithography, wet/dry etch, design, modeling (numerical/analytical), fabrication and characterization of APD devices, Synopsys Sentaurus TCAD device simulator, LabVIEW, MATLAB, C, C++, and Fortran. His research work was supported in part by the Center for Lighting Enabled Systems and Applications (LESA), a National Science Foundation (NSF), Engineering Research Center (ERC). From January to September 2016, he worked on Sandia Enabled Communications and Authentication Network using Quantum Key Distribution (SECANT QKD) project at the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT) at Sandia National Laboratories, Albuquerque, USA. This work was funded by the United States Department of Energy (DOE).

Dr. Hossain has excellent leadership and communication skills and has a strong interest in innovation. He served as the Associate Vice President (AVP) of Student Membership at IEEE Photonics Society (IPS), IEEE for 2014-2016. He was the President of Optical Society of America's UNM Student Chapter for 2014-2015. He also served as the Vice President for 2013-2014. Mr. Hossain was the recipient of 2014 SPIE Optics and Photonics Education (OPE) Scholarship for his long term and potential contribution to the Optics and Photonics. He was also an active graduate student member of many professional and learned societies including SPIE, OSA, IEEE, IEEE Photonics Society (IPS), and IEEE EDS.

Dr. Hossain was involved with numerous co-curricular activities during his undergraduate studies at KUET. He worked as a coordinator at IEEE Student Branch, KUET in 2007. He was elected as a Vice President of EEE Department Student Organization in 2008 to conduct various departmental affairs. He joined as a Lecturer in EEE Department at Stamford University Bangladesh in September, 2009 and worked there till August, 2012. He was the founding counselor of IEEE Stamford U Student Branch in Bangladesh in 2012.
