Academic Profile:

The two streams of my research often flow together: Nature and Culture. In my environmental research, I explore how communication as a cultural force mediates human ecological relations. In my research on culture, I explore ways culture and communication intersect to generate and transform perceptions and practices.

Professional Background:

Before entering academia, journalism. I served as magazine and newspaper editor, reporter, editorial writer, copy editor, and current events talk show host during my 13-year career, and worked in a range of media, including daily, weekly, and monthly newspapers, monthly magazine, and NPR-affiliate radio.
